URGENT!! What should i wear for this occasion?

so okay this attorney and his wife are having this fundraiser to collect money from esponsors for a schollarship comittey or sumthn like that...since i was one of the people who applied and received the schollarship i was invited...my counselor told me to dress up, like collar shirt and tie, and slacks would work..but i have a black suit...but idk if i should wear it because i dont want to go over dressed....so should i go in the suit or the other one???
